I love to paint, to dip a brush, sponge, or finger into a pot of paint and smoosh it with another color to see what happens. I do not think ahead (cannot tolerate paint mixing charts). I prefer to make do and try to "fix" the appearance as I go. Sometimes I even start by making it as ugly (e.g. muddy or garish) as possible. It gives me a place to start. The gallery of images below are either the colors in nature that inspire me (mostly leaves), or the sheets of paintings I do in preparation for Exhibit at the Norwich Public Library. Nov 1 - Dec 28, 2012A few samples of the paintings I will be showing at this exhibit. A few of them are watecolors, but most are oils.
As you may observe, I love winding staircases ~ particularly the old dark ones found in Europe. I'm trying out WordPress, Typo3 (or something like that), Weebly, and the old standard iWeb, for starters. Joomla has intrigued me for years, and I've subscribed to advanced training, but can't seem to spend more than twenty minutes sticking with it. I forget everything I learn within about an hour. I used to be mostly left-brained, except when I sang Bach or Brahms. Now, I want to scream color, shape, rule-breaking, and intuitive action. I have no patience for back-end digital mastery. I need WYSIWYG. Here is the WYSIWYG from today's painting exercise in my studio. What you may not know is that some of the shapes on the painting can be altered. I like the colors. I like the broken rules. I like what you can see behind the jail bars that are, in fact, removable. Hm... |
Brief Bio:What keeps me sane is being able to see, feel, and appreciate the color, space, and shapes of whatever I interact with. Sometimes, it's human beings. Other times, it's nature. What I really like is the tangible nature of creating art for myself, whether it be through paint, words, or some way of expressing it. Archives
